Both apps have the classic perpetual licensing model that assumes that you can use them offline. They do not require a subscription.

Well, if you are not happy with newer products Microsoft is selling these days, you can stay with Office 2010, and continue using it as long as you need. Keep in mind however that sooner or later, it may become vulnerable without receiving security patches. The secure modern apps will require you to regularly pay for a subscription plan.

Office 2016 For Mac End Of Mainstream Support Price
13 October 2020 is the date when Office 2016 for Windows will end its ‘mainstream support’ period. As we’ll see later, this announcement should have been made in September 2015 – almost a 18 months ago. Their normal support timescale is 5 years mainstream support, followed by 5 years of extended support during which only security related updates are issued. Released in 2015, Office 2016 mainstream support is due to end in October 2020.
